The 2021 Ford Expedition and Ford F-150 both sit near the top in their SUV and full-size truck rankings. Both are great vehicles, but let’s compare the two as we look at the convenience package of an SUV to a full-size truck.
Passenger/Cargo and Towing Specs
If you are looking for a vehicle that can do it all, the Ford Expedition is for you. It has the capabilities of a truck, but also the convenience and style of an SUV. The Expedition can seat comfortably up to eight people with three rows of seating. Ford also boasts an enormous amount of cargo space in their Expedition, with 20.9 cubes behind the third row, and a whopping 104.6 cubes with the seats folded down. Not only can you travel in style with your gear, you can also tow your favorite recreation toys. When fully equipped the Expedition has a towing capacity up to 9,300 pounds.
In a regular cab model, the F-150 seats up to three people; you’ll need to upgrade to a SuperCab or SuperCrew model to get the capacity of six passengers. You’ll get the space in the bed from a truck but depending on what you are looking for, it won’t give you the convenience of an SUV on your trip. The standard 3.3-liter V6 engines have a payload capacity of 1,990 pounds and a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds. Upper end models can deliver towing capacity of 8,500 pounds with a 2.7 turbocharged V6 engine or 11,600 pounds with a V8 engine.
Safety and Tech Features
If you are looking for a great infotainment package, every Expedition comes standard with a user-friendly SYNC 3 infotainment system, which includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with an easy to use 8-inch touch screen. Other standard features include satellite radio, voice recognition, four USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Now standard in all models for your peace of mind is the Ford Co-Pilot360 with Blind Spot Information System, Pre-collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, and Adaptive Cruise with Stop-and-Go. New wheel designs can be seen across all trims and rumor has it that 2022 will bring about a vertical touch screen and maybe even a new trim level: the Timberline.
The F-150 has been completely updated for 2021 including the option to fold the 10-speed automatic shifter completely flat for a larger workspace. Power-operated running boards that extend down the sides of the truck as a step are also included to give you a hand when reaching into the cargo area. You can also opt for a 7.2-kW onboard generator for your workday or tailgating needs. Technologically speaking, available features include the SYNC 3 infotainment system, an 8-inch touch screen, satellite radio, navigation, Bluetooth, a USB port, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Safety features include Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go.
