The 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor is almost here, and we’re as excited for this off-roading midsize truck as anyone. Not only will the Ranger Raptor come standard with all the gear you need for premium off-roading, but it will also deliver more power and greater ground clearance than its fellow Rangers. If you’ve got your heart set on a midsize off-roading pickup, you’re going to want to wait for the all-new Ranger Raptor!
What is the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor?
You’re probably already familiar with Ford’s classic midsize truck, the Ranger. Compared to the bigger F-150, the Ranger gives you less muscle and more fuel economy. It’s perfect for drivers who don’t need to tow or haul too much weight and prefer to spend less on a new truck.
And you’re probably also familiar with the F-150 Raptor, an off-road-ready, light-duty truck that goes to extremes with its off-roading capabilities. Lately, Ford has been expanding the Raptor brand, creating a Bronco Raptor and now a Ranger Raptor. And that means that a wider variety of drivers can enjoy the Raptor's all-out off-roading skills.
In addition to the usual gear — like standard four-wheel drive and locking front and rear differentials — the Ranger Raptor comes with extra drive modes to help you navigate the wild. Besides Normal, Sport, and Slippery, the Ranger Raptor helps you traverse serious obstacles with Rock Crawl, Sand, Mud/Ruts, and Baja driving modes.
Will the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor have a V6 engine?
For the first time, the Ranger Raptor is bringing massive power to the midsize truck segment. Under the hood, this Ford truck will pack a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes an incredible 392 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission will send power to all four wheels, the perfect setup for your off-roading adventures.
More than pure power, however, the Ranger Raptor also brings some serious gear to your off-roading experience, much like the bigger F-150 Raptor. It will deliver extra ground clearance and skid plates to help you move through the elements without taking any damages. You’ll also enjoy locking front and rear differentials, so you can maintain traction even if one wheel goes completely airborne. And the Ranger Raptor comes standard with 33-inch all-terrain tires and, compared to other Ranger trucks, wider front and rear tracks.
What else will the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor offer?
Like other Raptor models, this new midsize truck will be pretty luxurious, with lots of standard comfort features. These include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. You also get remote start, a feature that gives you the power to fire up the engine from across the parking lot. And the Ranger Raptor’s cutting-edge infotainment system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. And you may even have access to a wireless smartphone charging pad or a premium sound system.
When will the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor be available?
Ford hasn’t said how much its all-new Ranger Raptor will cost. That said, however, we expect it to start around $44,500. While that’s more than the Ranger’s starting price (est. $27,500), it’s also much less than the cost of an F-150 Raptor (est. $76,775).
