We love working with customers from all over, but when you're buying from Brighton Ford and you live out of state, things can get a bit more complicated. To streamline the process, we want to make sure that our valued customers understand what's different if you live outside of Colorado and what we will need to make your purchase a smooth process.
Can I Title and Register the Vehicle I Purchased from Brighton Ford OUTSIDE the State of Colorado?
We would love to sell you a vehicle, but some states and financial institutions have new regulations and requirements that may make this process difficult--or even impossible. Title and registration information must be obtained from your home state, so we will only be able to assist you from Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, so that we can effectively communicate with other time zones and state agencies. We cannot hold a vehicle while we are speaking with your home state. We ask your understanding, as the process of gathering all of the necessary information from your home state regarding taxes, fees, inspections and emissions information, and required forms may take additional time. For this reason, please understand that you will rarely be able to take delivery of your vehicle on the same day as test drive.
Will You Ship Me the Vehicle?
Due to proof of identity requirements, you must sign all documents in person and take delivery from Brighton Ford.
Will the Pricing and Rebates Be the same?
The advertised pricing for the new vehicles on our websites and other media is based on the Ford incentives that apply to residents of the Brighton region. Ford may offer different incentives based on your home address; therefore, the price may be different.
What about Taxes? Additional Fees?
Most states, but not all, have a "reciprocal" relationship with Colorado for sales tax. In the states that do not have this relationship, you will be responsible for paying 6% sales tax to the state of Colorado plus the applicable home state's sales tax. Because of this, it may not make financial sense for you to purchase in Colorado. Similarly, a few states will not or cannot give us the amount of local/city/county/state fees, sales tax, ad valorem tax, or use tax. When this is the case, we will not be able to deliver the vehicle.
Can I Register any Brighton Ford Vehicle in my Home State?
Some states may have different emission requirements than Colorado, which may affect registration.
Can I Finance with My Bank or Credit Union?
Certified or wired funds must be received from your lender by Brighton Ford before delivery. Drafts, letters of credit, or funds on hold will not be accepted on out-of-state deals. We are also happy to assist you with financing.
What About Insurance?
You will be required to provide state and VIN-specific insurance, driver's licenses from your state, and, if transferring a license plate, a copy of your state registration. All of these items must match the address of your new registration.
What If I Am Not Returning Home Soon?
You should not encounter problems, unless your home state requires a vehicle/emissions inspection in your home state before they will title and register the vehicle.
Can I Handle My Own Title and Registration?
Yes, if you purchase a pre-owned vehicle in full with immediately available certified or wired funds. You may not handle your own title and registration process if you purchase a new or pre-owned vehicle using financing. Lenders require the dealership to provide proof of registration and lien record. Ford requires proof of registration to match any incentives received by the buyer.
How Long Will It Take to Receive My New Registration?
Each state's timeline for processing out-of-state titles and registration varies greatly. If you must provide emissions, state inspection, ad valorem, or paid property tax/fees/assessment receipts, your processing time will likely increase. Our goal, if we have all the of the documents we need, is to complete your registration within 60 days.
