The 2020 Ford F-250 and Nissan Titan HD are two sturdy workhorses with ample towing power. But which should you choose? We’re here to help you take a closer look at exactly what these trucks can do.
Max Towing & Hauling: 2020 Ford F-250
As the heavy-duty truck in this competition, it probably comes as no surprise that the F-250 can tow and haul more than the Titan XD. With the right configuration and equipment, Ford’s heavy-duty pickup can tow up to 20,000 pounds of conventional trailer. The F-250 will also help you make fewer trips hauling heavy workloads, with payload capacities of up to 4,332 pounds.
The Titan XD follows way behind, with max tow ratings of 10,950 pounds. It also hauls less, maxing out at 2,470 pounds. The Titan XD isn’t technically a heavy-duty truck, however. It’s designed to be more capable than a full-size pickup but leave less of a footprint than a heavy-duty model. And this in-between status certainly has appeal to a certain kind of truck driver.

If it’s power you want, the F-250 is your best option. The base 6.2-liter gasoline-powered V8 engine supplies 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. If you need more power, check out the new 7.3-liter gasoline V8 engine, which increases capabilities with 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. This new V8 is paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, which was specially designed to maximize towing and hauling performance. For all-out towing performance, check out Ford’s turbodiesel 6.7-liter V8 engine, a powerhouse that supplies an incredible 475 horses and 1,050 pound-feet of torque.
For 2020, the Nissan Titan XD is dropping the 5.0-liter Cummins diesel V8 engine from its lineup. The only remaining engine option is a 5.6-liter gasoline-powered V8. This engine gets a power bump for 2020, increasing output to 400 horses and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Premium Interior: It’s a Tie!
When it comes to cushy style, the 2020 Ford F-250 and Nissan Titan HD have a lot in common. Depending on trim level, both trucks offer every imaginable luxury, from leather upholstery to cutting-edge infotainment equipment. The 2020 Titan HD is only available with the crew cabin, but it’s certainly a spacious way to travel. The F-250’s three cabin options are equally likeable, with generous space and an upscale fit and finish.
Among the Titan XD’s standout features, you’ll find standard 20-inch wheels and an optional panoramic moonroof. The F-250 speaks to your stylish side with its leather upholstery options and optional multi-contour front seats with massage settings.

Configure the Perfect Truck: 2020 Ford F-250
This year’s Nissan Titan XD is only available in one configuration, a crew cabin paired with a 6.5-foot bed. That’s all well and good if it happens to be what you want. However, many truck drivers are used to the luxury of choice. And that’s exactly what the 2020 Ford F-250 delivers with its six trim models, three cabin options, and two bed sizes. Shoppers who want to configure the perfect truck should also note that the F-250 offers three engine options, while the 2020 Titan XD is only left with one gas-powered V8.
Both trucks are stylish and capable, but the F-250 offers much more in terms of personalization. Ford’s heavy-duty truck is also the strongest of the pair, able to tow and haul far more than the Titan XD can even think about moving.
