Smart and swift, the 2020 Ford Mustang and Toyota GR Supra are favorites among speed demons and style hounds. Both look good and feel good on the road, so which is right for you? Our comparison guide has the details.
Spacious Seating: 2020 Ford Mustang
If you want to bring more than one of your friends along for the ride, you’re going to need the Mustang’s backseat. (The GR Supra simply doesn’t have one.) You’ll also love how roomy the front seats are – you wouldn’t think a pony car could deliver so much head- and legroom. Elbows and hips also have plenty of room to revel.
The GR Supra’s two seats offer impressive support, an important feature when you’re speeding around corners. However, anyone with wide shoulders may feel a little pinched in these slightly-too-narrow seats.
Refinement, Inside and Out: 2020 Ford Mustang
Refinement, Inside and Out: 2020 Ford Mustang
Looking for luxury? The Mustang might surprise you. Outside, exterior upgrades like 18-inch wheels and a large rear spoiler give it major appeal. Inside, the cabin serves up high-end materials and an impressive fit and finish; you’ll feel like you spent way more than you actually did.
And the Mustang’s standard features lineup includes items that modern drivers crave, like a Wi-Fi hotspot and remote start technology. The EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium models step up your comfort levels with leather upholstery and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
Inside, the Toyota GR Supra sets you up with standard leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and power front seats. However, the cabin doesn’t quite have the same panache you get with the Mustang. We also wish the leather upholstery was perforated for greater breathability and comfort.
All-Out Agility: 2020 Toyota GR Supra
All-Out Agility: 2020 Toyota GR Supra
A nimble performance is the GR Supra’s main strength. Indeed, that’s the main difference between this new Supra and Supras of old, which catered more toward straight-line speed. But jump in this new model and the first thing you’ll notice (outside of its impressive speed) is its tight steering and dynamic handling.
The 2020 Ford Mustang is certainly no slouch in the agility department, though. The Mustang’s bigger size (it does have a backseat, after all) means it's not quite as quick in a tight spot. However, the Mustang certainly speaks to sporty drivers with its confidence-boosting stability and aggressive braking performance.
Boldest Beauty: 2020 Ford Mustang
Boldest Beauty: 2020 Ford Mustang
This category might be a matter of taste, but we really think the Mustang has the edge. The 2020 Mustang exterior is both bold and sleek, while the GR Supra is undeniably angular. The Mustang’s fastback roofline and long, aggressive snout are as iconic as the nameplate itself. The GR Supra doesn’t have quite the same recognition factor, though we do admit that its chiseled frontend is likely to turn some heads. The Supra’s hard lines are also more divisive – many drivers either love it or hate it.
In the end, while the Toytoa GR Supra is irrefutably sporty, the Mustang delivers much more for your money. On the road, the Mustang looks good, feels good, and sets you up in a richly appointed cabin. Ford’s muscle car checks all the right boxes – and then some.
