New for the 2020 Ford F-150 is a 10-speed automatic transmission that is standard with all engines. Ford offers several powerful engine options. It comes with a 3.3-liter V6 engine with 290 horsepower and 265 pound-ft. of torque. This is plenty of power for the city and highway, but if you’d like some more power, Ford has you covered. Options include a 5.0-liter V8 that makes 395 horsepower and 400 pound-ft. of torque, a turbocharged Ecoboost 2.7-liter V6 that produces 325 horsepower and 400 pound-ft. of torque, and a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 375 horsepower and 470 pound-ft. of torque. There's also a 3.0-liter turbodiesel that will give you 250 horsepower and 440 pound-ft. of torque. All of these engines give the F-150 better towing and hauling capabilities than the base engine and help deliver better acceleration. The 375-horsepower turbocharged V6 provides the F-150’s highest towing capacity. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 13,200 pounds and has a maximum payload of 3,270 pounds. With its base engine and rear-wheel drive, the F-150 gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Those are some of the best ratings for full-size pickup trucks.
The Ram 1500 has four engine choices, but most trims come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. If you upgrade to one of the V8 engines, you can boost your tow rating. Both are 5.7-liter and produce 395 horsepower with 410 pound-feet of torque. One of the V8 engines comes with the eTorque mild-hybrid feature and will add up to 130 pound-feet of torque. A 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine is new for 2020 and produces 260 hp and 480 pound-feet of torque. Every engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Ram’s base trim has a maximum payload capacity of 2,300 pounds and a maximum tow rating of 7,730 pounds. An upgraded engine will get you up to 12,560 pounds in towing capability.
