You can have just about everything you want in a small truck from the 2020 Ford Ranger. The Ford Ranger is one or the most capable vehicles in the compact pickup truck class. The 2020 GMC Canyon boasts similar capabilities, but if you are looking for a well-rounded compact truck, Ford has you covered with the 2020 Ranger. Let’s help you decide. If you are in the Denver area, Brighton Ford is here for you.
Design and Style
The 2020 Ford Ranger seats four people in SuperCab models and five in SuperCrew models with comfortable and roomy front seats in both models. The standard extended-cab SuperCab Ranger comes with a 6-foot bed, while the crew-cab SuperCrew model has a 5-foot bed. For a compact truck, the Ranger has impressive towing and hauling capabilities. Payload capacities range from 1,560 to 1,860 pounds and it can tow up to 7,500 pounds, which places it among the class leaders. The Ranger comes in three trims: XL, XLT, and Lariat.
The 2020 GMC Canyon seats only two people, but the Extended Cab models have two rear seats, and Crew Cab models have a three-person rear bench seat. Seat support isn’t adequate in the front and rear seating, making it less comfortable for longer trips. The Extended Cab comes with a 6-foot-2-inch bed and the Crew Cab models can have either a 5-foot-2-inch or a 6-foot-2-inch bed. With the GMC Canyon’s base engine, it can only tow 3,500 pounds. You will need to get one of its more powerful engines to get a towing capability between 7,000-7,700 and a maximum payload capacity of 1,605 pounds. The GMC Canyon is available in six trims: Canyon SL, Canyon, Canyon SLE, Canyon SLT, Canyon all Terrain, and the Canyon Denali.
POWER AND HANDLING
Every Ranger comes with a powerful turbocharged engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission that combine for a smooth and seamless acceleration. Its turbocharged engine feels energetic in just about every driving situation, and it handles well on winding roads. The Ranger features a potent turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It's capable whether you're driving to work or towing a trailer down the highway. Acceleration is generally quick, and the 10-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth shifts. When equipped with rear-wheel drive, the Ranger gets 21/26 mpg in the city and on the highway. With four-wheel drive, ratings will drop to 20/24 mpg in the city and highway.
The GMC Canyon has a standard four-cylinder engine that gives you 200 horsepower. This power is enough to get you around town, but not for heavy-duty work. An available option is a V6 engine with 308 horsepower and a turbo diesel engine that produces 181 horsepower. Both the diesel and four-cylinder engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which helps the Canyon to shift smoothly. The Canyon gets an estimated 20/30 mpg in the city and on the highway with its diesel engine, and 20/26 mpg with its base engine.
