Which modern crossover should you make a part of your daily life, the 2022 Ford EcoSport or 2022 Chevy Trax? Our comparison guide is here to help you take a closer look at each of these popular subcompact crossovers.
Friendliest Price: 2022 Ford EcoSport
Both subcompact crossovers are easy on your budget, but the EcoSport has a slightly friendlier price tag, starting at $22,040. The entry-level Chevy Trax starts at $23,200.
Sporty Performance: 2022 Ford EcoSport
Compared to the Trax, the EcoSport provides both more power and an increasingly dynamic performance, thanks to its standard all-wheel-drive system. Choose the EcoSport for a more rewarding drive and greater off-road capabilities.
- 2.0L four-cylinder engine (166 horsepower, 149 lb-ft of torque)
- Six-speed automatic transmission
- Standard all-wheel drive
As you can see, the Trax isn’t as powerful as the EcoSport. The Trax also doesn’t come standard with all-wheel drive. However, it does provide this traction-boosting gear as an option.
- Turbocharged 1.4L four-cylinder (155 hp, 177 lb-ft)
- Six-speed automatic transmission
- Standard front-wheel drive
- Optional all-wheel drive
Ride Comfort: 2022 Ford EcoSport
The EcoSport is our pick for comfy cruising. Around turns, you’ll feel cool and composed, and the suspension does a good job of soaking up bumps in the road. And, of course, the EcoSport cabin provides ample room for five passengers, even giving you a few extra inches of legroom compared to the Trax.
With the Chevy Trax, driving can feel a bit choppy. That’s true even on the highway, where you’d expect a smoother ride. On the other hand, we like the Trax’s comfortable seating and available comfort features, which include a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Modern Features: 2022 Chevy Trax
The Trax has a slight advantage here, because it comes standard with more infotainment features. Even the base trim model includes a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The EcoSport offers an 8-inch touchscreen and built-in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on the SE model and up, excluding the base model from these standard features.
Otherwise, you’ll find these crossovers have a lot of features in common. Both the EcoSport and the Trax are available as a variety of trim models. As you move up the list of trim models, each adds to the last with more tech and comfort features, such as a sunroof or blind-spot monitoring.
Choose Your Extra-Small Crossover
In the end, the Ford EcoSport is our first choice, and we think you’ll be equally pleased with everything it has to offer. Ford’s extra-small crossover delivers a very sporty performance, comfortable ride, and even a slightly lower price tag.
