The Rundown
On average, most vehicles do not change much from year to year; they often remain the same, with slight changes and improvements made. Every five years or more, a vehicle will improve drastically. This is often associated with generational changes. Recently the Ford Escape went through a mid-cycle generational change.
Is there any difference from 2022 to 2023 for the Escape?
The two originally started out at the same prices, although simply because the 2023 will be introduced the 2022 prices will drop slightly. The years start off with similar prices around $28,000 and increase across their trims to $38,000 for the top tier trim (prices may vary). Since both the 2022 and 2023 Escapes have the same engines, the differences are cosmetic and administrative. The 2023 Escape has a refined dash with more modern features and technological upgrades. In comparison the 2022 model of the Escape can feel a tad stale and spartan. The 2022 Escape felt more like just any run of the mill crossover, and the 2023 offers more of a rugged look with more athletic styling. Beyond the appearance of the two being changed significantly, the two remain relatively similar. If you don’t mind the plain 2022 Escape, its pricing should be reduced somewhat and makes it a bit more attractive.
What do the trim changes mean for the Ford Escape?
The 2023 Escape has introduced the following trims, Base, Active, ST-Line, Platinum and PHEV. Ford cut out the previous trims, S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The 2023 Escape features multiple versions of the ST Line trims, with more athletic options for each. Hybrid and PHEV powertrains are available on the ST Line trims and Platinum trim.
Is the 2023 model year better than the 2022 model year?
The answer to this question truly depends on if the new model year is completely worth it to you or not. The newer Escape does not add much more options besides technological upgrades in the dashboard and a much more rugged look. The older Escape had definitely become a little bit stale, and was mainly marketed for Ford lovers who wanted a Ford crossover, the 2023 can compete more effectively against the CRV and RAV4 with its rugged looks and options.
Summary
The two Escapes are both great vehicles and offer a suite of options. The new generation of the Ford Escape in 2023 most definitely offers a more attractive and rugged look. The 2022 Escape is still a reliable Ford vehicle that does not compromise on any Ford reliability. Whichever vehicle you choose will undoubtedly get you from A to B for years to come with reliable Ford construction.
