What’s the difference between the 2023 Ford Super Duty and 2022 Ford Super Duty? After a full redesign for the 2023 model year, the Super Duty not only looks different from the old models, but it offers more power and an outstanding list of new tech features. Let’s take a look at exactly how these heavy-duty trucks have changed.
Configuration Options
Both trucks are highly configurable. You can choose between three weight ratings: F-250, F-350, and F-450. Each of these is divided into six trim models: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Moving up the trim lineup means you’ll enjoy more in features and exclusive styling. Depending on trim level, you can choose between three cabin styles: regular, extended SuperCab, and SuperCrew. And, finally, you can choose between a 6.75-foot or 8-foot cargo bed.
Powertrain Options
If you’re familiar with the Super Duty, you’ll recognize its tried-and-true heavy-duty engine options:
- Standard 6.2-liter gas-powered V8 (385 horsepower, 430 lb-ft of torque)
- 7.3L gas-powered V8 (430 hp, 475 lb-ft)
- 6.7L turbo-diesel V8 (475 hp, 1,050 lb-ft)
For 2023, though, Ford is rolling out a few new engines. The first is its new standard engine. Compared to the outgoing standard engine, it’s bigger and (most likely) more powerful. There will also be a high-output version of the iconic turbo-diesel V8 engine, which looks very likely to deliver best-in-class torque. However, we’ll have to wait and see, because Ford hasn’t announced all of the powertrain specs for the redesigned Super Duty.
- Newly standard 6.8L gas-powered V8
- 7.3L gas-powered V8
- 6.7L turbo-diesel V8
- High-output 6.7L turbo-diesel V8
Work-Ready Tech Features
Compared to the previous generation, the new Super Duty is also available with features never before seen in the heavy-duty truck segment. These include a wide range of tech features designed to help you safely tow a trailer, such as:
- Onboard scales with Smart Hitch: This technology tells you both your cargo weight and offers guidance on the trailer tongue weight distribution.
- 360-Degree Trailer Camera System: The trailer is now included in your parking camera’s bird’s eye view.
- Blind Spot Information System for fifth-wheel & gooseneck trailers: Attach this system to your trailer to help you switch lanes safely.
- Pro Trailer Hitch Assist: This technology backs and aligns your truck’s conventional hitch ball with a trailer receiver.
- Trailer Navigation: Navigation that can plan a route with your trailer’s dimensions in mind, avoiding low bridges or too-tight turns.
Creature Comforts
Like the outgoing Super Duty, the redesigned truck offers touchscreen infotainment and smartphone integration. However, the new Super Duty includes the upgraded SYNC 4 system, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 12-inch touchscreen (on the XLT and up). And this new heavy-duty truck also provides some new creature comforts you won’t find on previous models, such as:
- Customizable 12-inch digital gauge cluster
- Full-color head-up display
- Max Recline Seats
- 18-speaker B&O Unleashed Sound System
- Alexa Built-in hands-free experience and up to three years of complimentary Alexa
