One of the most recognizable and affordable utility vehicles, the Ford Flex was launched in 2009. Looking to get out of the minivan category, the Ford Flex sought to be a 7-passenger vehicle for the entire family, with blocky squared-off styling, an all-wheel drive option, and plenty of space and flexibility. Ford has sold only one generation of the Ford Flex, and it will be discontinued in 2020. If you’re in the market for great, reliable, pre-owned Flex, Brighton Ford has you covered.
2009-2019 (1st Generation)
In 2009, the Ford Flex was introduced with three trim levels – the base SE model, the SEL, and Limited trims. It offers seating for up to seven passengers in three rows. It is available in front-wheel drive on all trims and an optional all-wheel-drive is available on the SEL and Limited trim levels. An optional onboard class-exclusive refrigerator between the second-row chairs was an optional feature. Other available options included a one-touch system to fold and tumble the second row, removable and adjustable footrests in the middle seats, and an ambient lighting system. Ford offered three colors for the roof paint: black, white/cream, and body-color. A 3.5-liter V-6 engine, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that makes 262 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque is the original engine. 2010 offers a new 355-horsepower EcoBoost V-6 engine.
2011 and 2012 models sold a Titanium edition, which added certain exterior and interior trim pieces to the Limited model, with blacked out headlights, tail lights, rear applique, 3 bar grille without the Ford logo, blacked out beltline trim, fog lamp bezels, and mirror caps. It also is available with a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine. For 2012, an automatic parking system was added as an option for upper-trim models.
2013 Update
The 2013 model year was updated significantly, but still remained in the same generation. It updated the styling of the front and rear to make it look sleeker and more upscale. The dashboard was updated with a new 3-spoke steering wheel. A single-bar grille replaced its three-bar grille, and the headlights gave the Flex a more muscular look. It reduced the seating capacity to six in three rows. On the tailgate, the Ford emblem was decreased in size and moved to the bottom right corner. The base 3.5-liter V6 was upgraded to 287 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque; and you also had the choice of the turbo V6. In 2015, heated side mirrors became standard; and in 2016 the SYNC 3 multimedia system became available.
In the 2019 model, the Flex only had minor changes, and it was the final year for the vehicle.
