The Lincoln MKZ is a four-door, five-passenger, midsize luxury sedan. Initially launched with the name Zephyr, it only lasted for a year before changing to the MKZ name in 2007.
First Generation (2006-2012)
The Lincoln MKZ first came out with a single powertrain – a 221 horsepower 3.0-liter V6 and six-speed automatic transmission. A year later, a 3.5-liter V6 joined the engine options. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available. Interior features included real wood ebony or maple inserts in metallic frames, chrome accents, and a chrome-enhanced instrument panel. Standard safety features include curtain-style head protection airbags, side-impact airbags in front, traction control and anti-lock brakes. In 2008, the addition of Sirius satellite radio, a tire-pressure monitoring system, perforated leather seats, and Lincoln SYNC was standard. The MKZ was updated for the 2010 model year. Wraparound headlights and new taillights offset a new fascia with a split-wing grille and revised hood. Voice-controlled DVD-based navigation, rain-sensing windshield wipers and adaptive HID headlights were also added. Lincoln added a new Hybrid model that used the same hybrid powertrain as the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan. It had a 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor.
Second Generation (2013-2020)
The MKZ was completely redesigned for the 2013 model year. Improved aerodynamics to the car’s profile and interior upgrades were made. Interior options included full-covered leather seats, wood and metal trim, a lane-keeping assistance system, and a retractable panoramic roof. The choice of three powertrains were offered – the base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 240 horsepower, and a V6 300-horsepower or a 141-horsepower hybrid four-cylinder were optional. The non-hybrid models used a six-speed automatic transmission. In 2015, automatic headlights, a rear-view camera, and rear parking sensors were standard. There was a major refresh in the 2017 model year, with a new grille and larger headlights, and integrated daytime running lights. This year a twin -turbo V6 engine with 400 horsepower, as well as a self-parking system became available. Also, the SYNC 3 infotainment system replaced the MYLincoln Touch. No major changes for the 2020 model year.
