The Rundown
In 2021 Ford unveiled the all-electric F-150 Lightning. Since then thousands of consumers have put in orders for the Lightning, pushing wait times for the auspicious truck out to 6 months. While you may have to wait for a while for your truck, customer reports for the lightning have been extremely positive. With the impressive marketing of this all-new electric truck, Ford has been touting left and right the Lightning’s ability to power an entire home. This makes it easy to justify the hype for the new pickup. The 2022 model orders have already closed, and 2023 orders opened August 9th, 2022. The EV has already begun to close fleet orders on some of the lower trim levels for the 2023 model as well, so getting in your order within the next few months, especially if you want a lower trim, is paramount.
Can the Ford F-150 Lightning Actually Power a House?
The short answer? Yes. The F-150 Lightning really does have enough power output and battery charge to power a full-sized home for 3 days. This feature would seriously benefit those affected by natural disasters like a hurricane. The F-150 Lightning has an onboard computer that is able to detect when power is no longer flowing into the battery, and then begins to export that power to your entire home. Ford even claims that when rationed properly the battery could power the necessities of your home for up to 10 days. This feature in an electric vehicle sets a precedent that we hope most EV producing companies will want to follow. Most new pickup trucks are offering four wheel turning to improve turn radius, but this feature pales in comparison to the ability to power an entire house. Granted one does need to purchase the Ford powering station and pay for an install from a professional electrician, but this only runs about $2,000 total. The built- in generator on the F-150 Lightning is a powerful feature, pun intended. And on top of an already powerful truck, it makes the Lightning the cream of the crop.
What is the Range and Towing Capacity of the Lightning?
On lower trims the standard range for the Lighting is 230 miles on a full battery. This is standard on the Pro, XLT, and Lariat Trims. The more powerful “Extended Range Battery” bumps that number up to 320 miles. This is available as an option on the XLT and Lariat trims and comes standard on the top tier Platinum trim. The standard range battery offers up to 7,700 pounds of towing, while the extended range battery has a capacity of 10,000 pounds.
Summary
The Ford F-150 Lightning is a powerful EV truck that comes packed with every Ford feature we have come to love over the years. With a significant range and towing capacity this EV tops the charts already as the number one all electric pickup. Then topping it off with the ability to power your house, Ford has cemented The F-150 Lightning’s number one spot for years to come. The Ford Lightning is the pickup truck of the decade.
