The 2020 Ford Fusion and 2020 Chevrolet Impala are two midsize sedans that offer comfort and style, but there are some notable differences that will make the Ford Fusion your choice.
Design and Safety Features
The 2020 Ford Fusion is an appealing four-door sedan that offers plenty of modern safety and technology features, making it one of the best choices. It’s standard Ford Co-Pilot360 protection package, with blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, rear view camera, and forward automatic emergency braking has made this model a step above most; all while retaining its affordable base price. Its upscale cabin design that remains quiet at highway speeds, makes it a strong competitor in its class. The well-weighted steering and agility lets it tackle twists and turns with composure; and you won’t have to sacrifice comfort with Fusion’s smooth ride and comfortable seating. In addition, the large trunk helps you transport all your needs.
Similar in design to the Fusion, the 2020 Chevrolet Impala is a great car with plenty of passenger and cargo space, but with some disappointments. The seats could use more support and the overall appeal of the interior is distracting with its hard plastics, most notably on the center stack. A rearview camera is the sole standard safety feature in this sedan. Available safety features include forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane change alert, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
Entertainment System
The base Fusion comes well-equipped with voice-activated SYNC interface and Ford’s MyKey. Available features include an excellent SYNC 3 infotainment system, an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, navigation, two USB ports, Bluetooth, satellite radio, a six-speaker audio system, an 11-speaker premium audio system, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system. These features come standard in the trims above the base S trim.
The Chevrolet Impala comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen, smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, three USB ports, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. Navigation, wireless device charging, and an 11-speaker Bose premium stereo are available.
Price, Fuel, and Range
The Fusion pricing begins at an impressive $23,170 for the Fusion S to the top of the line Fusion Titanium starting at $34,450. For a midsize sedan, the Fusion gets one of the best gas mileage with 23/34 mpg in the city and highway, when equipped with the 181 hp turbocharged engine.
The Impala’s base price starts higher at $31,620 for the Impala LT and ranges to $36,720 for the Impala Premier. It gets a not-so-impressive 19/28 mpg on the city and highway. These mileage figures are low for a midsize sedan.
Overview
The 2020 Ford Fusion is a solid car that brings a lot to the table, including comfortable seats, and a smooth ride. While the 2020 Chevrolet Impala is similar in design and comfort, the Fusion offers some better features and gas mileage to make it your choice.
