The Ford EcoSport has been around for quite some time, but it didn’t come to the United States until the third generation, starting in 2017. It has made few changes and improvements since it was introduced, though there haven’t been many changes from year to year between each of the models. The EcoSport stands out from many competitors, having advantages over many in its class. Made to be an affordable vehicle that can maneuver well, seat up to five people, and still offer plenty of cargo room, this car performs its duties well. Come see for yourself at Brighton Ford.
First Generation (2004-2012)
The first EcoSport launched in 2003 from Ford of Brazil and became one of Ford’s best-selling models. The EcoSport interior featured minimal functions to keep the car price low. It offered an air-conditioning system, central locking, power steering and brakes, ABS, and power windows. EcoSport relies on front disc brakes and rear drums for the braking system. Its engine ranged from a fuel-efficient 1.0-liter gasoline engine up to a powerful 2.0-liter engine. Also available was a 1.4-liter diesel engine. All models had front-wheel drive with manual transmission, and the 2.0-liter model was also available with a four-speed automatic transmission or four-wheel drive.
In 2007, a refresh improved the look of the front and back, while also outfitting the interior with better materials.
2nd Generation (2013-2017)
This generation debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. It offers a huge grille and modern clean lines. It has its latest 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine and also its diesel engine. It has great fuel economy, with an estimated 27/29 mpg in the city and on the highway with the 1.0-liter engine.
Third Generation (2017-Present)
This is the generation that started in the United States and Canada, and was a mid-cycle refresh that modified the front fascia and dashboard to create a space for a floating touchscreen infotainment system. It comes with Ford’s excellent infotainment system that is intuitive, responsive, and innovative – the SYNC 3, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes standard with a Wi-Fi hotspot. It features a different grille, new bumpers, wheels, and new exterior colors. The EcoSport comes in four trims: S, SE (the sport-themed trim), the SES, and the luxurious Titanium model.
The base S model features 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, a rearview camera, blind-spot mirrors, and cruise control, and a 4.2-inch central display screen.
The SE model is equipped with LED running lights, fog lights, a windshield wiper de-icer, body-colored exterior accents, roof rails, rear parking sensors, an 8-inch touchscreen, and satellite radio.
The SES model is a sporty variant, with 17-inch wheels, heated mirrors, a rear spoiler, a sport-tuned suspension, black exterior styling elements, automatic wipers, a heated steering wheel, and leather upholstery.
The Titanium builds off the SE, adding 17-inch wheels, chrome exterior trim, metallic bumper accents, heated mirrors, leather upholstery, and a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen Play premium audio system.
A keyless entry keypad and remote engine start are standard options on every trim level.
This sporty small compact SUV maneuvers well through city streets and in and out of parking spaces with ease. It offers 20.9 cubic feet of cargo room that expands to 50 cubic feet with the 60/40 split seats.
